Jacqueline Sander: Principal psychologist

I obtained my clinical psychology qualifications in Germany in 2005. After moving to Australia in 2006 I further advanced my psychology qualifications at the University of Tasmania (MSc) and become a registered psychologist in Australia (AHPRA). Upon completion in 2008, I first worked at Centacare in Tasmania assisting children and their families, adolescents, and adults with issues ranging from anxiety, depression, family and life transitions, anger, ADHD, grief and loss, trauma, family violence, stress, and burnout.

During this time I learned to adapt interventions to the individual needs of the people seeking my help. I was also greatly moved and inspired by all the children I worked with, by their creativity to come up with solutions for their own problems and their bravery to address their problems with their parents. My passion into work with kids and their parents started to grow during this period. Having had my own two children a few years later deepened this care for children and their welfare.

At a similar time I also discovered my interest into mindfulness, practising it for myself and most certainly during stressful parenting times with my own kids. I also found the practice of mindfulness incredibly useful for the clients I work with – both adults and children. This passion then led me to formally train as a a certified mindfulness trainer for children and parents with the IAM Institute for mindfulness in Belgium where I was residing and working from 2013 to the end of 2015.

After returning to Australia in early 2016, I have set my goal to continue assisting children and their families overcoming emotional and relational struggles, growing into their chosen direction, and spreading the word of mindfulness practice.

Ann McLaughlan: Registered psychologist

I am a registered psychologist with over ten years’ experience helping people to overcome their personal barriers. I’ve always been passionate about helping others which led me to study clinical psychology. Following the completion of my Degree in 2009 I worked in several inpatient clinics in East Westphalia, Germany, specialising in the treatment of a wide range of issues, including identity- and adjustment stress, mood, anxiety, and addiction disorders, pain, grief and loss, relationship issues, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I worked in both individual and group therapy settings.

During this time I formed a strong interest in the benefits of Mindfulness and Meditation which led me to develop and facilitate an inpatient mindfulness group program, aiming to enhance patients‘ self-awareness and facilitate personal growth. Additional group sessions I managed focussed on implementing relaxation strategies, smoking cessation, stress management, and helping cancer patients cope with the complexity of their situation (building on my past university research and thesis on post-traumatic personal growth experienced by cancer patients).

I also worked at an outpatient clinic in Bielefeld, Germany, utilising a person-centered approach to assist clients progress towards their personal goals and improve their wellbeing by drawing upon a variety of evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness-based interventions (MBCT/MBSR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET).

Following my move to Perth in 2016 I gained General Registration from AHPRA enabling me to practice psychology in Australia. Before joining Present Mind Psychology in 2020, I worked in the vocational rehabilitation sector where I gained experience in assisting injured workers, in particular ex-service personnel, which helped me to develop an understanding for their particular circumstances and needs.
