Approaches to therapy include (but are not limited to)

  • Creative play therapy for children: this treatment acknowledges that children engage and learn the most in therapy through play, story telling, art, craft, symbols, sand tray, and visualisations.

  • Family therapy: using attachment- and systemic therapy this form of treatment addresses the issues of the child in the context of the family. Together the family explores new ways of supporting each other.

  • Cognitive therapies: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT) which help to identify thought, emotion and behaviour patterns that contribute to the existing problems. Self-compassion therapy to overcome ingrained emotional negativity and develop greater kindness towards oneself.

  • Trauma-informed therapies: Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, trauma-focussed CBT and integrative trauma therapy using somatic strategies 

 

Cost

The Australian Psychological Society recommends a fee of $300 for a standard psychological consultation. However, at Present Mind Psychology we are committed to maintain access to psychological services by low gap fee for clients.

Fees for a standard 55 minute session are:

Standard consultation: $160         Concession: $130 

Concession fees apply in financial hardship situations only.

 

Medicare Rebates ($93.35) available for 10 sessions in a year if referred by a GP under a Mental Health Care Plan.

 

Payment is due at the time of consultation and can be made via debit/credit card, electronic transfer or cash. Medicare rebates can be directly claimed through our online Medicare system. if you choose to seek our service privately, then you can claim rebates from most private health funds, however, it will depend on your extras cover.

 

The NDIS price guide 2022 to 2023 for psychology sessions for clients under NDIS funding, recommend a fee of $231 per one hour session. Our rate for NDIS sessions is $200 per 55 min psychology consultation and is  below the recommended rate to maintain access, sustainable long-term use of funds, and includes preparation time and admin service.  We can bill your plan manger directly or you can pay upfront and claim back from NDIS.

 

Process

  • Contact your GP if you wish to be referred under a Mental Health Care Plan. Your GP can email or mail the referral to us or you can bring the referral with you on your first appointment with us. You can also seek our service without GP referral as a private patient.
